Once your vehicle is sold, the proceeds support Heritage for the Blind’s mission, and you receive a tax receipt you can use when you file. How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your vehicle and Austin location
Start online or by phone and share basic details: year, make, model, condition, and where the vehicle is located in the Austin–Round Rock area. Let us know if it runs, where it’s parked (driveway, street, garage), and any special access issues so we can match the right local tow truck.
2. Choose a pickup day that works for you
Once we have your info, we contact a local towing partner near your neighborhood—whether that’s East Riverside, Westlake, Round Rock, or Buda—and offer you available pickup windows. Pickup is always free. We’ll aim for a day and time that fits your schedule and the tow operator’s Austin traffic routing.
3. Prepare your title and clear personal items
Before pickup, remove personal belongings and gather your Texas title. In most cases, you’ll sign the title over to complete the donation. If you have questions about a lost title or name changes, we’ll walk you through Texas DMV options so the tow driver can complete the paperwork quickly at the curb.
4. Meet the tow truck (or plan for no-contact)
On pickup day, a local tow operator arrives at your Austin-area address, from downtown streets to hill country driveways. In many cases, you can do a quick handoff with the driver. If you need a lower-contact pickup, we’ll explain how to leave signed paperwork in a secure agreed spot when allowed.
5. Your car is sold, proceeds support Heritage for the Blind
After tow, Ride Forward manages the sale of your vehicle. The net proceeds help fund Heritage for the Blind’s programs for people who are blind or visually impaired. You receive a tax receipt—typically at least $500 in value—with instructions for using Form 1098-C if the final sale amount exceeds $500.

Tip: If your car is in a garage, alley, or tight street in areas like Downtown, West Campus, or Clarksville, let us know in advance. Tow trucks—especially flatbeds—need a certain turning radius and height clearance. Sharing garage levels, height limits, and any one-way or dead-end details helps avoid last-minute rescheduling.
Gate codes, HOA rules, and limited visitor parking
Tip: Many Austin apartments and condos in spots like East Riverside, the Domain, or South Lamar require gate codes or have strict visitor and towing rules. Check your community guidelines and share codes or gate instructions with us. Let us know if your HOA requires a notice for towing so your pickup goes smoothly and on time.
Rural and hill country access outside the city core
Tip: If you’re outside central Austin—perhaps near Dripping Springs, Manor, Elgin, or Lago Vista—pickup is still free, but routing can take longer. Narrow roads, steep driveways, or low tree branches may limit certain trucks. Describe your road and driveway, and we’ll schedule a tow that can safely reach your vehicle.
Non-running vehicles stuck in difficult spots
Tip: If your car doesn’t run and is blocked in grass, mud, or a tight backyard, let us know when you schedule. Tow operators need to plan for winching or special positioning. Sharing clear photos and access notes up front can prevent delays and help us assign a truck equipped for tricky Austin driveways and lots.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is tricky for your situation—maybe your building won’t allow tow trucks inside, street work is blocking access, or your car is at a shop—you still have options. In many cases, our local towing partners can meet you at a nearby accessible location, such as a wider residential street, public lot, or workplace parking area in Austin, Round Rock, or surrounding suburbs. We’ll help you choose a realistic meeting spot and time, coordinate with the driver, and walk you through the same donation paperwork so you still enjoy a smooth, local donation experience.

Pickup in dense central neighborhoods may be faster, while more rural areas toward Elgin, Dripping Springs, or Liberty Hill can require extra routing time. For Texas donors, you’ll typically sign your TX title over to the charity’s designated agent and remove your plates if you prefer; then follow Texas DMV guidance for plate return or transfer and insurance cancellation after the donation is complete.
